The scene holds its breath at the boundary of the stronghold: cliffs close in, mist rises from the valley, and every step brings the visitors nearer to the danger they have chosen to face.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA steep diagonal draws the eye upwards from the figures to the palisade and mist. Weathered ochre, pine green and soot-black lines keep the image close to the feel of an old printed sheet, while visible paper gives the mountain air room.
