This work, titled 607 Girl-Finding in the Grass, demonstrates his characteristic approach to composition and colour. The image features a central figure rendered in a schematic, almost childlike manner, set against a backdrop of architectural elements that defy traditional perspective. The artist employs a distinctive graphic style, using fine, repetitive lines to create texture across the surface of the print.

The palette is dominated by a bright, saturated yellow, which contrasts with the dark, linear patterns of the structure and the reddish tones of the figure. Hundertwasser often integrated his personal philosophy regarding the human connection to nature and the built environment into his visual output. The windows of the building are depicted as dark, uniform shapes, while the ground is marked by rhythmic, parallel lines that suggest a field of grass. This print is part of his extensive graphic catalogue, where he frequently numbered his works to track their production and sequence.

Technically, the piece utilises etching and aquatint processes to achieve its varied tonal qualities. The lines are precise, yet they maintain an organic quality that avoids the rigidity of mechanical drafting. The figure itself is simplified, with eyes and bodily features reduced to basic geometric symbols. This approach allows the viewer to focus on the interplay of pattern and colour rather than realistic representation. The work reflects the artist's interest in the decorative potential of the print medium, as well as his desire to create art that feels accessible and human-centred. By avoiding standard artistic conventions, Hundertwasser invites a direct engagement with the visual elements of the print, prioritising the emotional resonance of the composition over formal accuracy.

You might also like

Moon Woman by Jackson Pollock
The Delights of Landscape by René Magritte

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/607-Girl-Finding-in-the-Grass_Poster_CompositorV1_1792125647992.jpg?v=1792198949
