This work, titled 692 The Rain Falls Far From Us Falls the Rain, displays his characteristic approach to colour and composition. The painting features a series of stylised, circular tree forms rendered in bright yellows and greens, which dominate the lower and middle sections of the canvas. These forms are punctuated by figures that appear to merge with the surrounding environment, a common theme in the artist's work regarding the unity of humanity and nature.

The upper portion of the composition is occupied by a rhythmic arrangement of raindrops, falling against a textured, undulating background. Hundertwasser employs a personal visual language where repetition and pattern serve to create a sense of movement. The palette is dominated by high-chroma tones, with contrasting red accents in the lower architectural elements and the falling droplets. The application of paint suggests a tactile surface, typical of his mixed-media approach where he often combined oil, watercolour, and metallic pigments.

Throughout his career, Hundertwasser advocated for ecological harmony and individual expression in architecture and painting. This piece reflects his interest in the cyclical nature of the environment and the emotional resonance of weather phenomena. The lack of traditional perspective creates a flattened, decorative effect, drawing the viewer into a dreamlike space. By avoiding rigid geometry, the artist invites a more intuitive engagement with the subject matter. The work remains a clear example of his idiosyncratic style, which prioritised the irregular over the uniform, and the personal over the industrial.

You might also like

Bloem (Flower) by Lucebert
East and West by Pavel Filonov

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/692-The-Rain-Falls-Far-From-Us-Falls-the-Rain_Poster_CompositorV1_1792127327008.jpg?v=1792291816
https://www.solisprints.com/products/692-the-rain-falls-far-from-us-falls-the-rain-friedensreich-hundertwasser
