His work often incorporates ecological themes, bold colour palettes, and a highly personal iconography. This specific piece, 936 The 30 Days Fax Painting, reflects his unique approach to composition, where the surface is filled with a dense array of symbols, figures, and architectural motifs.

The visual language here is characteristic of his later period. The composition lacks a traditional vanishing point, opting instead for a flattened, map-like arrangement of elements. Human figures, stylized buildings with onion domes, and circular forms populate the space, connected by winding, vein-like paths. The use of colour is aggressive and high-chroma, with heavy reliance on yellows, blues, and reds to delineate different zones of activity. The lines are not uniform, but rather wavering and hand-drawn, which reinforces the artist's philosophy regarding the tyranny of the straight line in modern architecture and design.

Technically, the work demonstrates his interest in the intersection of traditional painting and modern communication technology. By titling the work as a fax painting, he acknowledges the process of transmission and the potential for art to exist in multiple, non-original formats. The density of the imagery suggests a narrative that is non-linear, inviting the viewer to scan the surface for details rather than focusing on a single subject. The repetition of circular motifs and the rhythmic placement of figures create a sense of constant movement across the paper. This print captures the energy and the idiosyncratic vision that defined his career, offering a glimpse into a world where nature and human construction exist in a state of constant, fluid interaction.

You might also like

People, Birds and Sun by Karel Appel
Zeemeermin by Lucebert

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/936-The-30-Days-Fax-Painting_Poster_CompositorV1_1792126494948.jpg?v=1792289121
