It records the union of Monsieur Émile Majoie and Mademoiselle Anna Van Ermengem. The text is presented in a refined copperplate script, a style of handwriting that gained popularity in the nineteenth century for its fluid, rhythmic curves and varying line thickness. Such documents were essential social instruments in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, communicating family status and personal milestones through the medium of high-quality stationery.

The aesthetic of the piece relies entirely on the precision of the calligraphic hand. The letters exhibit the characteristic swells and tapered terminals associated with the use of a flexible steel nib. The composition is balanced, with the central text block anchored by the date and location at the bottom. The negative space surrounding the script provides a sense of formality and restraint, typical of the period's social correspondence.

Émile van Ermengem, a Belgian bacteriologist, is better known for his scientific contributions, including the identification of the bacterium responsible for botulism. This document offers a glimpse into the personal life of his family circle. It serves as a historical record of a specific social ritual in late nineteenth-century Belgium. The clarity of the print ensures that the elegance of the original script is preserved, making it a piece of interest for those who appreciate the history of typography, social history, or the craft of formal penmanship. The monochromatic palette and the focus on line quality reflect the understated sophistication of the era's printed ephemera.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/Marriage-Announcement-of-mile-Majoie-and-Anna-Van-Ermengem_Poster_CompositorV1_1791866228372.jpg?v=1791866520
https://www.solisprints.com/products/marriage-announcement-of-emile-majoie-and-anna-van-ermengem-emile-van-ermengem
