Her work is characterised by a playful approach to perspective and a deliberate simplification of form. In this composition, the artist presents a collection of fruit arranged within a dark, shallow bowl. The pineapple, rendered with rhythmic, textured brushwork, acts as the central anchor for the arrangement. Beside it, a cluster of grapes and two bulbous forms provide a balance of colour and shape. A single white butterfly, a recurring motif in Fedden's oeuvre, hovers near the upper left, adding a sense of movement to the otherwise static scene.

The setting is typical of Fedden's domestic interiors. The bowl sits upon a striped surface, while the background reveals a view through a window. The exterior scene, featuring a simplified hill and a cluster of white buildings, suggests a coastal or Mediterranean influence. The use of blue curtains framing the window creates a sense of depth, drawing the viewer's eye from the immediate foreground into the distant, sunlit view. The palette is carefully considered, using muted earth tones for the fruit and table, contrasted against the cooler blues of the curtains and the sky.

Fedden's technique avoids excessive detail, favouring instead a direct, honest application of paint. Her work often bridges the gap between observation and imagination, creating scenes that feel both grounded in reality and slightly dreamlike. This print captures the quiet observation that defines her practice, offering a view of everyday objects transformed through her unique visual language. The composition is balanced, with the verticality of the pineapple and the horizontal lines of the table creating a stable structure. It is a characteristic example of her ability to find beauty in simple, domestic arrangements.

You might also like

Still Life with Earthenware Dish by Pierre Bonnard
Flower Piece I by Richard Hamilton

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0833/9292/1935/files/Still-life-with-pineapple-and-butterfly_Poster_CompositorV1_1792119710869.jpg?v=1792197715
