The composition centres on the two brothers embracing, their figures kneeling on the earth in a moment of reconciliation. To the left, a large tree anchors the scene, while the background reveals the vast herds of livestock Jacob brought as a peace offering. To the right, Esau is accompanied by a retinue of armed men, their presence providing a contrast to the intimate gesture of the brothers. The print exhibits the technical precision characteristic of seventeenth-century Dutch printmaking, with fine hatching used to define the musculature of the figures and the texture of the foliage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJan Philipsz Schabaelje was a Dutch engraver and writer known for his religious publications. His work often focused on biblical themes, intended for a public familiar with the scriptures. The print includes Latin text at the base, which provides a narrative summary of the event. The inclusion of the publisher's mark, Claes Jansz Visscher, indicates this work was produced for a wider circulation, likely as part of a larger illustrated bible or collection of prints. The scene captures the tension and resolution of the narrative, balancing the domestic scale of the brothers' meeting with the military scale of Esau's entourage. The attention to detail in the clothing, the armour of the soldiers, and the animals reflects the period's interest in historical accuracy and narrative clarity. This print is a clear example of the graphic arts produced in the Netherlands during the seventeenth century, where printmaking served as a primary medium for the dissemination of religious and moral stories to a literate and pious audience.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Jan Philipsz Schabaelje","offers":[{"title":"Fine Art Poster \/ A4 (21x29.7 cm) \/ -","offer_id":59102344642895,"sku":null,"price":29.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Poster \/ A3 (29.7 x 42  cm) \/ -","offer_id":59102348116303,"sku":null,"price":39.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Poster \/ A2 (42 x 59.4  cm) \/ -","offer_id":59102348149071,"sku":null,"price":49.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A4 (21x29.7 cm) \/ Black frame","offer_id":59102348181839,"sku":null,"price":89.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A4 (21x29.7 cm) \/ Wood frame","offer_id":59102348214607,"sku":null,"price":89.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A4 (21x29.7 cm) \/ Dark wood frame","offer_id":59102348247375,"sku":null,"price":89.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A3 (29.7 x 42  cm) \/ Black frame","offer_id":59102348280143,"sku":null,"price":119.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A3 (29.7 x 42  cm) \/ Wood frame","offer_id":59102348312911,"sku":null,"price":119.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A3 (29.7 x 42  cm) \/ Dark wood frame","offer_id":59102348345679,"sku":null,"price":119.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A2 (42 x 59.4  cm) \/ Black frame","offer_id":59102348378447,"sku":null,"price":185.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A2 (42 x 59.4  cm) \/ Wood frame","offer_id":59102348411215,"sku":null,"price":185.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"Fine Art Framed \/ A2 (42 x 59.4  cm) \/ Dark wood frame","offer_id":59102348443983,"sku":null,"price":185.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0833\/9292\/1935\/files\/Verzoening-van-Jakob-en-Esau_Poster_CompositorV1_1791868526833.jpg?v=1791868751","url":"https:\/\/www.solisprints.com\/products\/verzoening-van-jakob-en-esau-jan-philipsz-schabaelje","provider":"Solis Prints","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
