This engraving by Theodor de Bry depicts a young woman from the Secota people of coastal North Carolina. It was prepared for the 1590 publication of Thomas Hariot's 'A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia'. De Bry based his work on the original watercolour drawings produced by John White during the 1585 expedition to Roanoke.

The composition presents the subject in two poses: one facing the viewer and one turned away. This dual perspective was a common technique in early modern ethnographic illustration, intended to provide a comprehensive view of the subject's physical appearance, attire, and body markings. The woman wears a fringed apron and beaded jewellery, with visible patterns on her arms and legs. The background features a river scene with a small settlement and a fishing weir, providing context for the daily life of the Secota people.
