This engraving by Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert depicts the Annunciation, a subject frequently explored in seventeenth-century European art. Bolswert, a skilled printmaker from the Netherlands, often collaborated with painters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Gerard Seghers to translate their compositions into the medium of engraving. This work displays the characteristic technical precision of his craft, utilising varied line weights and cross-hatching to define the volume of the figures and the dramatic play of light.
