Ghisi, a Mantuan printmaker, was known for his technical precision and his ability to translate the complex compositions of painters into the medium of copperplate engraving. The scene presents the couple reclining on an ornate couch, attended by figures who offer nourishment and adornment. A small winged putto crowns them with a wreath, while a female attendant pours liquid into a vessel.

The background reveals a secondary narrative layer, featuring satyrs engaged in a ritualistic act near a classical statue. This juxtaposition of the central, serene mythological figures with the more active, rustic elements in the distance is characteristic of the Mannerist approach to composition. Ghisi employs a dense system of hatching and cross-hatching to define the musculature of the figures and the textures of the drapery, trees, and rocky terrain. The light source is managed to create a sense of volume, particularly across the bodies of the central pair.

Ghisi often worked after designs by other masters, such as Giulio Romano, and this print reflects the influence of the Roman school of the sixteenth century.
