This print depicts the biblical narrative of Susanna, a woman falsely accused of adultery by two elders. The scene captures the moment of intervention by the young Daniel, who steps forward to challenge the false testimony. Gerard de Jode, a prominent cartographer and printmaker based in Antwerp, utilised the technical precision of the Northern Renaissance tradition to render this complex composition. The work is characterised by a clear, structured perspective, with the figures arranged in a shallow stage-like space before a backdrop of classical architecture.

De Jode employs fine, controlled lines to define the drapery of the garments and the expressions of the gathered crowd. The central figure of Daniel is shown in a dynamic pose, contrasting with the more static, solemn figures of the elders and the accused Susanna. The architectural elements, including the dome and townhouses in the distance, provide a sense of scale and historical context typical of sixteenth-century printmaking.
