Description
Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways carries a steam train across a high stone viaduct, with blue water, rocky slopes and a mountain ridge opening beyond the carriages.
Steam drifts behind the locomotive as it crosses a many-arched viaduct above a still turquoise lake. The carriages follow the curve of the line through grey rock and green slopes, while a steep mountain face rises behind the water. Heather and rough stone occupy the nearer ground, giving the railway a strong route through the wider terrain.
Anyone who has travelled on Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways may recognise that the journey is as much about the changing views as the train itself. This scene recalls the moment when the line leaves the close valley and the water, hills and long bridge come into view together.
