The Heller Altarpiece, commissioned by the Frankfurt merchant Jakob Heller, represents a collaborative effort between Albrecht Dürer and Matthias Grünewald. While Dürer provided the central panel, Grünewald contributed the exterior wings, which depict the martyrdom of Saint Catherine and Saint Lawrence. This work demonstrates the distinct stylistic approach of the German Renaissance, balancing precise anatomical observation with dramatic, emotive lighting.

The central scene, often associated with the Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin, features a complex arrangement of figures. Above, the Virgin Mary is crowned by the Holy Trinity, surrounded by a host of putti. The landscape in the background provides a serene contrast to the supernatural events occurring in the heavens.
