Description
New Art Centre places a monumental open-centred sculpture in a calm parkland setting, where the dark metal form draws attention across mown grass towards the low modern gallery.
Two curved steel sections lean together above a circular opening, catching warm light on one side and deep shade on the other. A pale stone building stretches behind the work with long bands of glazing, while mature trees frame the lawn and rolling fields beyond.
At New Art Centre, outdoor sculpture and the surrounding Wiltshire grounds are part of the visit rather than a separate backdrop. This view recalls the pause before entering the gallery, when the form, trees and open country are all held in the same frame. The sculpture's aperture makes the countryside visible through the work, extending the encounter beyond the gallery doors on arrival and departure.
