Arkhip Kuindzhi, a master of atmospheric light, produced this work during his association with the Peredvizhniki, or Wanderers, group. The painting captures the vast, open expanse of the Russian steppe, a subject that occupied the artist throughout his career. Kuindzhi focuses on the interplay between the golden wheat field and the expansive, cloud-filled sky, creating a sense of immense scale and quietude.
