Alphonse Legros, a French artist who spent much of his career in Britain, produced a significant body of graphic work that favoured traditional techniques over the emerging trends of his era. This etching demonstrates his mastery of the needle, utilising varied line weights to construct a sense of atmosphere and light. The composition focuses on a hillside, where the textures of the foliage and the structure of the farm are rendered through precise, rhythmic hatching.
