Description
The Grey Mare's Tail sends a white fall between dark crags, drawing the eye down towards the stream and the quiet green slopes below.
Above The Grey Mare's Tail, a narrow ribbon of water drops from a high rock lip into a shadowed cleft. Steep charcoal faces show pale vertical seams, and patches of heather colour the sloping banks beside the gorge. Broken stones gather around the channel at the base, with rounded hills rising beneath large, shifting clouds.
The Grey Mare's Tail gives a visitor a clear sense of the Southern Uplands changing from open hill to enclosed ravine. The scene follows that movement down to the burn, where the gorge narrows and the water continues between the rocks.
