This exquisite miniature originates from the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, a manuscript commissioned by Jean, Duke of Berry, and executed by the Limbourg brothers: Herman, Paul, and Jean. The work displays the technical precision characteristic of early fifteenth-century Franco-Flemish illumination, utilising pigments such as lapis lazuli and gold leaf to achieve a luminous finish.

The composition is divided into two distinct registers. The upper section depicts the interior of a Gothic cathedral, where figures in contemporary fifteenth-century attire observe the elevation of the Host. The architectural rendering demonstrates an early interest in spatial depth, with the chequered floor tiles and vaulted ceilings creating a sense of volume. The lower register presents a narrative scene set against a cityscape, featuring a white horse and a group of figures gathered near a monastic structure. This juxtaposition of sacred ritual and secular activity is typical of the devotional books produced for the Burgundian court.

The borders are framed by architectural elements, including niches containing sculpted figures, which provide a sense of structural integrity to the page. The use of colour is deliberate, with primary reds and blues contrasting against the gold-toned architecture. The figures are rendered with attention to the drape and texture of their garments, reflecting the fashion of the period. This piece offers a window into the devotional practices and aesthetic preferences of the European nobility during the late Middle Ages. The meticulous application of paint and the balance between the architectural setting and the human figures demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship associated with the Limbourg brothers before their untimely deaths in 1416.
