Cornelis Dusart, a pupil of Adriaen van Ostade, produced this etching in 1685. It captures the boisterous atmosphere of a Dutch village fair, a common subject for artists of the period who sought to document the daily lives of the peasantry. The composition is crowded with activity, featuring figures dancing, drinking, and socialising in front of timber-framed houses.

Dusart uses a fine, precise line to define the textures of the architecture, the clothing of the villagers, and the various animals scattered throughout the scene. A ladder leans against a house on the left, where a man watches the festivities from an upper window. To the right, a makeshift stage hosts performers, while the foreground contains everyday objects such as barrels and baskets. The etching demonstrates a high degree of technical control, with cross-hatching used to create depth and shadow across the village square.

This work reflects the interest in genre scenes that defined much of the Dutch Golden Age. Dusart avoids idealisation, choosing instead to present a candid view of rural life.
