This hand-coloured engraving by the Flemish master Johannes Wierix depicts the biblical narrative of the Marriage at Cana. Wierix, a member of a prolific family of engravers based in Antwerp, produced this work during the late sixteenth century. The composition follows the conventions of Northern Mannerism, prioritising a clear, didactic arrangement of figures within an architectural setting.

In the foreground, Christ stands as the central figure, gesturing towards the large stone water jars that are being filled by a servant. The scene captures the moment of the miracle, where water is transformed into wine. To the left, the wedding guests are seated at a long table, their attire reflecting the period fashion of the late Renaissance. The artist employs a precise, controlled line quality, characteristic of his training in the Antwerp school. The application of colour, likely added shortly after the initial printing, enhances the narrative clarity of the scene, distinguishing the figures through a palette of muted reds, greens, and ochres.

The architectural elements, including the classical columns and the arched opening in the background, provide a sense of spatial depth.
