This engraving by Johannes Wierix depicts a significant political moment during the Dutch Revolt: the oath of allegiance sworn to the States General on 2 August 1577. The central circular composition captures a group of armed soldiers and commanders, including figures identified as Bourse, Rouck, and Liedekercke, gathered in a courtyard. The scene is framed by an elaborate architectural border, typical of the period, which incorporates allegorical figures representing Veritas (Truth) and Concordia (Harmony) at the top. Above the central scene, a small winged figure appears within a cloud, adding a layer of symbolic narrative to the historical event.

Wierix, a member of a prolific family of engravers from Antwerp, demonstrates his technical precision through the fine, controlled lines used to define the armour, the architectural details, and the expressions of the figures.
