This engraving by Hans Sebald Beham, dated 1546, belongs to a series depicting the months of the year through the activities of peasant life. Beham, a member of the group known as the Little Masters, produced small-scale prints that were highly sought after by collectors for their technical precision and narrative clarity.

The composition is divided into two distinct scenes. On the left, a couple dances with vigour, their bodies captured in mid-motion. The male figure, labelled 'Iacob Hewmon' (July), wears a cap and simple tunic, while his partner is depicted in a traditional dress. On the right, a second couple walks with a more measured pace, representing 'Lavrencivs Avgstmon' (August). The woman wears a head covering, and the man carries a sword at his hip, a detail that suggests the social status or specific role of the figure within the seasonal cycle.

Beham employs fine, controlled lines to define the forms and textures of the clothing, as well as the subtle shading on the figures. The background remains minimal, focusing the viewer's attention on the human subjects and their interaction with the calendar cycle. The artist's monogram, ISB, is clearly visible between the two scenes, alongside the date. This work provides a glimpse into the social customs and agricultural calendar of sixteenth-century Germany. The print reflects the period's interest in the daily lives of common people, a subject that gained popularity in Northern European art during the Reformation era. The clarity of the engraving technique allows for the preservation of fine details, from the folds of the fabric to the expressions on the faces of the peasants.
