The Triumph of Pride is a detailed engraving by Cornelis Cort, produced in 1565 after a design by Maerten van Heemskerck. This work belongs to a series depicting the Triumphs of the Seven Deadly Sins, a popular subject in sixteenth-century Northern European print culture. The composition follows the tradition of the Roman triumphal procession, adapted here to serve as a moralising allegory.

At the centre of the scene, a figure representing Pride sits atop an ornate chariot. She holds a mirror, a traditional attribute of vanity, while a peacock perches behind her. The chariot is pulled by horses guided by a figure representing Contempt. Surrounding the central group are various personifications of related vices, including Invidia (Envy) and Curiositas (Curiosity), each identified by Latin inscriptions. The background features a stylised cityscape with classical architectural elements, such as an obelisk and a triumphal arch, which provide a sense of scale and historical context typical of the period.

Cort employs a sophisticated system of hatching and cross-hatching to define the forms, textures, and shadows within the scene. The line work is precise, allowing for the clear articulation of the figures, the musculature of the horses, and the decorative details of the chariot. The print reflects the technical mastery of Cort, who was instrumental in disseminating the designs of Italian and Northern artists through his skilled engraving technique.
