The Triumph of Truth is a complex allegorical engraving by the Flemish master Johannes Wierix. Produced in 1605, this work demonstrates the technical precision characteristic of the Wierix family, who were prolific printmakers in Antwerp. The composition functions as a visual sermon, employing a dense arrangement of symbolic figures to convey moral and theological messages.

At the centre sits Veritas, the personification of Truth, holding an open book. She is flanked by figures representing opposing forces. To her left, a hooded monk stands upon a stack of books, clutching a lantern, which suggests a critique of institutionalised religious hypocrisy. To her right, a dynamic, semi-nude figure brandishes a serpent and a chalice, embodying Envy or Falsehood. Beneath Truth, a prostrate figure struggles against a globe, representing the vanity of worldly knowledge when disconnected from divine revelation. The scene is framed by putti in the clouds above, who hold a laurel wreath and a banner inscribed with the motto Veritas Vincit Omnia (Truth conquers all).

The engraving style is marked by fine, controlled lines that define the musculature of the figures and the textures of the drapery. Wierix uses cross-hatching to create depth and shadow, ensuring that the figures possess a sculptural quality despite the flat nature of the medium. The inclusion of Latin and vernacular text at the base provides a didactic layer, guiding the viewer through the intended moral interpretation of the allegory. This print reflects the intellectual climate of the early seventeenth-century Low Countries, where religious debate and humanistic inquiry often intersected in the visual arts.
