Gustavs Klucis, a Latvian artist and a pioneer of the photomontage technique, produced this poster in 1932. It represents the aesthetic and political climate of the Soviet Union during the early 1930s. The composition employs a hierarchical structure, placing a large, monochromatic portrait of Joseph Stalin in the upper portion, which dominates the visual field. Below this, the imagery shifts to industrial infrastructure, specifically blast furnaces, which symbolise the rapid industrialisation efforts of the era. A crowd of workers is integrated into the right side of the frame, providing a sense of scale and collective participation.

The work utilises a restricted colour palette, primarily relying on red, black, and white. This choice is characteristic of the Constructivist approach, which favoured bold, graphic clarity to communicate ideological messages effectively. The text, printed in a stark, sans-serif typeface, occupies the remaining space, reinforcing the visual narrative with slogans regarding the completion of the socialist economic foundation.

Klucis was instrumental in developing the agitprop poster as a medium for mass communication. His method involved cutting and reassembling photographic elements to create a new, synthetic reality. This specific piece demonstrates his ability to combine portraiture, industrial photography, and typography into a cohesive graphic unit. The work reflects the state-sanctioned optimism of the period, focusing on the transformation of the Soviet economy through the Five-Year Plan. By juxtaposing the leader with the machinery of production, the poster creates a direct link between political authority and industrial output. It remains a primary example of how avant-garde techniques were adapted for state propaganda purposes during the interwar period.
