The composition depicts the personification of Truth (Veritas) standing firm against a barrage of arrows fired by figures representing various vices. These antagonists, clearly labelled in the print, include Hypocrisy (Hypocrisis), Falsehood (Mendacium), and Ignorance (Ignorantia). The figure of Truth is shown protected by a large shield, deflecting the projectiles that threaten the believer.
Hondius employs the stylistic conventions of Northern Mannerism, characterised by elongated figures, dramatic tension, and a high degree of graphic detail. The anatomy of the figures, particularly the satyr-like representation of Hypocrisy, reflects the period's interest in classical motifs blended with moralising Christian iconography.
