Willow Kannon - Sakai Hōitsu

Sakai Hōitsu, a prominent figure of the Edo period Rinpa school, produced this depiction of the Bodhisattva Kannon. The figure stands against a flat, circular green halo, which provides a stark contrast to the muted gold background typical of the period. Kannon is shown holding a willow branch, a traditional attribute associated with the deity's healing and compassionate nature.
