Yoshitora, a student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, employs the traditional woodblock format to document the arrival of foreign vessels and the resulting shifts in local commerce and daily life.
The composition is divided across three sheets, creating a panoramic perspective that balances the bustling foreground with the expansive bay.
