The Abduction is the ninth plate from Max Klinger's celebrated cycle of ten etchings titled A Glove (Paraphrase on the Finding of a Glove). Published in 1881, this series follows the obsessive journey of a man who discovers a woman's dropped glove at a skating rink. The narrative shifts from reality into a dreamlike sequence where the object becomes a fetishised symbol of desire and anxiety.

In this specific plate, a pterodactyl-like creature snatches the glove from the grasp of a person reaching out from a window. The composition uses high-contrast etching techniques to create a nocturnal atmosphere. The dark, hatched background pushes the creature and the foreground flowers into sharp relief.
