This print is a reproduction of a drawing by Claude Lorrain, executed by the British master engraver Richard Earlom. Published in 1776 by John Boydell, the work forms part of the Liber Veritatis, a collection of prints documenting the drawings of Claude Lorrain held in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire. Earlom utilised a combination of etching and mezzotint to capture the atmospheric qualities of the original composition.

The scene depicts a coastal setting at sunrise. A figure stands upon a rocky outcrop, gesturing towards two men in a small boat, representing the biblical narrative of Christ calling Andrew and Peter. The composition relies on the contrast between the dark, textured foreground and the luminous, expansive horizon.
