The scene captures the moment of divine intervention, where an angel descends from the clouds to stay the hand of Abraham.

Abraham is shown as an elderly, bearded figure, his expression a mixture of resolve and sudden relief. Isaac, depicted as a youth, sits bound upon the altar, his posture suggesting resignation. To the left, the ram caught in the thicket serves as the substitute sacrifice, a detail rendered with careful attention to the surrounding foliage. The background features a distant, rolling terrain, providing a sense of scale to the immediate drama.

Bolswert employs a sophisticated system of cross-hatching and varied line weights to create volume and atmospheric depth. The drapery of Abraham's robes is particularly noteworthy, with deep shadows and crisp highlights that define the form against the lighter sky. The inclusion of Latin text at the base of the print follows the tradition of moralising or descriptive captions common in seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish printmaking.
