This Mughal miniature painting, attributed to the court artist Govardhan, depicts a dynamic hunting scene set within a stylised natural environment. A cheetah, wearing a collar, is shown in the act of bringing down an antelope, while other deer and a hare scatter across the grassy terrain. Govardhan was a prominent painter during the reigns of Jahangir and Shah Jahan. His work is recognised for its attention to individual character and the precise rendering of animal anatomy.
