Published in 1671, this collection served as a pedagogical tool for artists, providing them with models of classical sculpture and Renaissance art to study and copy. De Bisschop, a lawyer by profession and an accomplished amateur etcher, was highly regarded for his ability to translate the three-dimensional qualities of marble statuary into the two-dimensional medium of print.

The composition depicts the goddess Aphrodite standing with her son, Eros. The figures are rendered with a focus on anatomical precision and the soft modelling of flesh, characteristic of the classical tradition.
