The central focus is a group of figures suspended in mid-air, rendered with the elongated proportions and muscular tension characteristic of the Mannerist style. Below, the earthly scene depicts artists at work, engaged in the act of creation amidst a landscape that includes architectural elements and military imagery. Muller was a master of the burin, and his ability to translate Spranger's painterly designs into the medium of engraving is evident here.
