Pisanello, born Antonio di Puccio Pisano, produced this work for the Pellegrini Chapel in the church of Sant'Anastasia in Verona. The painting depicts a vision of the Virgin and Child, who appear in a golden mandorla above the two saints. Saint Anthony Abbot, identifiable by his monastic habit and bell, stands on the left. Saint George, dressed in elaborate, contemporary plate armour and a wide-brimmed straw hat, stands on the right. A dragon, partially obscured, lies at the feet of the knight.

The composition reflects the International Gothic style, which prioritises decorative detail and courtly elegance. Pisanello demonstrates his interest in naturalism through the precise rendering of the armour and the textures of the saints' clothing. The golden background, typical of the period, creates a celestial atmosphere that contrasts with the earthly figures below. The artist includes a signature at the bottom, which is a characteristic feature of his work.

This panel is notable for its synthesis of religious narrative and secular fashion. Saint George is depicted not as a generic figure, but as a nobleman of the fifteenth century.
