Charles-François Daubigny was a central figure in the transition from traditional academic painting to the plein-air practices of the Impressionists. This etching, titled Pommiers à Auvers, captures the rural character of the French countryside near Auvers-sur-Oise, a location he frequented throughout his career. The composition focuses on a small, winding path flanked by gnarled apple trees, with a lone figure visible in the middle distance.

Daubigny utilised the etching medium to convey the textures of the natural world.
