Description
Appledore rises beyond the estuary in soft pastoral colour, its pale riverfront and green hillside reflected between moored boats and broad stretches of golden sand.
Low-tide sand fills the foreground in warm ochre planes, broken by a narrow blue channel and three small craft. Across the water, white and dusty-pastel façades create a firm horizontal edge before compact roofs climb through layered trees and fields. A high pale sky gives the layered settlement room to breathe.
Seen from Instow, Appledore has the distinctive gathered form of a village built around its estuary frontage. The generous foreground preserves the spacious feeling of the crossing, while the distant houses retain the close-knit character familiar from walks along either bank.
