Description
Ashdown Forest is held by a wind-shaped pine above heather and rolling Sussex fields, making a calm, wide-reaching view with a distinctly open character.
Pale lichen spreads across the foreground sandstone, with russet bracken and violet scrub gathered at its base. Beyond Ashdown Forest, dark woodland bands divide the middle distance from pale patchwork farmland, while darker copses settle beneath the hills, and broad grey-white clouds drift over the far hills.
For residents of East Sussex and people who know the Weald on foot, the changing ground feels close to the experience of reaching a clearing after a climb. The view carries from rough stone and low scrub to the long horizon, keeping the forest’s spacious outlook in sight.
