The scene includes various activities associated with the season: farmers transporting goods in carts, workers tending to the fields, and the preparation of wine. In the sky, the artist has included the zodiac signs corresponding to the autumn months, specifically Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius, which provide a celestial framework for the seasonal cycle.

Sadeler, a member of a prominent family of engravers, demonstrates technical precision in his use of line. The engraving employs varied hatching techniques to create texture and depth, from the soft foliage of the trees to the solid forms of the wooden barrels. These prints were often produced after designs by other artists, in this instance Hans Bol, whose name appears in the lower left corner as the inventor of the composition. The Latin inscription at the base provides a poetic summary of the season, linking the harvest to the passage of time and the movement of the stars.
