Description
Bealach na Bà follows its sinuous mountain road through a steep Highland pass, with slate crags, grassed slopes and a high blue sky opening ahead.
The road folds through the pass in tight bends, its pale line held between dark rock faces and green, folded hills. A thin burn traces the valley floor, while cloud shadows move across the upper slopes and the distant ridge dissolves into blue. The scale of the corrie makes the carriageway feel improbably small.
Anyone who has crossed Bealach na Bà will recognise the anticipation of each bend and the sudden exposure of the heights. This view keeps the route's physical drama close to the coastal peninsula, where a drive can become the day's defining part.
