This photograph by Kassian Céphas captures a group of bedhaya dancers positioned within the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, the royal palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. Céphas, the first indigenous Indonesian professional photographer, held a unique position as the court photographer for the Sultan. His work provides a rare, authentic perspective on Javanese court life during the late nineteenth century.
