François Boucher, a central figure of the French Rococo, produced this work after a design by Antoine Watteau. The print captures a seated youth in a relaxed pose, positioned against a backdrop that blends European pastoral elements with exoticised features. The figure wears loose, flowing garments that suggest a Western interpretation of Eastern dress, typical of the period's imaginative approach to foreign cultures. Boucher employs a delicate, calligraphic line to define the contours of the boy and the surrounding foliage.
