This engraving by the Dutch master Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert depicts the Christ Child as Salvator Mundi, or Saviour of the World. Bolswert, a contemporary of Peter Paul Rubens, was highly regarded for his technical precision in translating complex painterly compositions into the medium of copperplate engraving. His work often reflects the dramatic lighting and emotional weight characteristic of the seventeenth-century Baroque period.

The composition features the infant Christ seated upon a cloud, a traditional motif used to signify his divine nature. He holds an orb surmounted by a cross, a symbol of his dominion over the world. His right hand is raised in a gesture of benediction. The surrounding nimbus of light is rendered through fine, radiating lines that create a sense of ethereal radiance against the darker, hatched background.
