Maxime Maufra, a painter associated with the Pont-Aven School, produced this still life with a focus on domestic textures and light. The composition features a ceramic pitcher, a woven basket filled with fruit, and a small dish containing a slice of cake, all arranged upon a patterned cloth. Behind the objects, a dark wooden surface provides a grounding, vertical element that contrasts with the lighter tones of the tabletop.

Maufra employs a technique characterised by visible, rhythmic brushwork. This approach allows the paint to capture the play of light across the curved surfaces of the pottery and the rounded forms of the fruit. The palette relies on earthy ochres, muted greens, and soft whites, which unify the disparate objects into a cohesive scene.
