Candido Portinari, a central figure in Brazilian modernism, produced this interpretation of Miguel de Cervantes' literary characters in 1956. The work depicts the iconic duo, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, as they embark upon their journey. Portinari employs a distinct visual language, utilising sharp, linear strokes to define the skeletal, elongated form of the knight and the more robust, rounded figure of his squire.
