James Webb was a prolific British painter known for his maritime scenes and topographical views. This work depicts the Dutch port of Dordrecht, a location that held a particular fascination for British artists throughout the nineteenth century. Webb captures the atmospheric conditions of the harbour, focusing on the interplay between the expansive, cloud-filled sky and the calm waters of the Meuse.
