This etching by the Dutch artist Romeyn de Hooghe depicts Emperor Leopold I alongside his son, Joseph I, in his capacity as King of Hungary. Produced in 1687, the work reflects the political climate of the late seventeenth century, during which the Habsburg dynasty sought to consolidate its authority across Central Europe. De Hooghe, a prolific printmaker known for his technical precision, employs a classic double-oval format to present the two monarchs. Each figure is framed by a laurel wreath, a traditional symbol of victory and imperial status.

Leopold I is shown on the left, wearing the periwig and lace cravat characteristic of the period, with his features rendered in fine, hatched lines that define the texture of his hair and the metallic sheen of his armour. Beside him, the younger Joseph I is depicted with a softer, more youthful countenance, reflecting his status as the heir apparent.
