Yoshida Hiroshi was a central figure in the Shin-hanga movement, which sought to revitalise traditional Japanese woodblock printing by incorporating Western techniques of light, shadow, and atmospheric perspective. This print, part of his series Eight Scenes of Cherry Blossoms, captures a weeping cherry tree in the rain. The composition is balanced by the reflection of the tree in the water, creating a sense of quiet stillness.

Yoshida was known for his meticulous approach to printmaking. He often worked closely with carvers and printers to ensure his vision was realised with precision.
