This etching by the French draughtsman and printmaker Israël Silvestre depicts the Fontana dei Draghi, or Dragon Fountain, located within the gardens of the Villa d'Este in Tivoli. Silvestre, who spent significant time in Italy during his youth, produced a large body of work documenting the architecture and gardens of Rome and its surrounding areas. His output provided a visual record for European audiences who were unable to travel to these sites themselves.

The composition employs a central perspective, drawing the eye toward the tiered structure of the fountain. Silvestre utilises precise, thin lines to define the architectural elements, including the curved staircases and the central niche. The surrounding trees are rendered with a lighter, more delicate touch, providing a contrast to the solid masonry of the fountain.
