These prints documented the arrival of foreign traders and diplomats in the port of Yokohama following the end of Japan's isolationist policy. Yoshikazu, a pupil of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, often produced works that blended observation with imaginative satire.

The composition depicts Westerners interacting with a miniature population, a visual trope inspired by Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels. The print features a large, seated Western man in a frock coat, his scale contrasted against smaller figures who attend to him. The inclusion of Japanese text provides a pseudo-scientific description of these foreigners, reflecting the curiosity and occasional xenophobia present in Japanese society during this period of rapid cultural change. The figures are rendered with the bold outlines and flat colour application characteristic of the mid-nineteenth-century woodblock tradition.

Technically, the print demonstrates the standard multi-block printing process of the era.
